Chad Johnson domestic-violence incident revealed in 911 call/Evelyn Releases Statement
A neighbor who called 911 calmly reported “a little domestic dispute” that resulted in the arrest of Chad Johnson.
In the audio of the 911 call, released Monday afternoon, Evelyn Lozada’s neighbor asks that police and paramedics be sent to the scene and the media not be told of the incident.
Lozada, star of “Basketball Wives,” suffered a cut to the head after she allegedly was headed-butted by Johnson, whom she married July 4, and was treated at a hospital. Johnson was arrested and later released on $2,500 bond. At one point during the call, Lozada can be heard to say “he headbutted me.”
The incident set off a cascade of events: Johnson was released by the Dolphins and the reality show the couple was set to star in, “Ev & Ocho,” was canceled by VH1.
The call lasts about 4 1/2 minutes and came about 30 minutes after the incident, which the police report indicates began when Lozada found a receipt for condoms in the couple’s Smart Car. “I don’t want the police to come with their lights on,” the neighbor tells the 911 dispatcher, “but I just want them to come until everybody calms down.”
The neighbor said that Lozada “has a nice cut on the forehead that I believe is going to need stitches” and asked for a low-key police presence, although he did not mention Johnson by name.
“He’s a very high-profile person so we’d like to keep this as quiet as possible,” he said. “If you could let the police know because we don’t need the news here.”
Johnson has had a past incident of domestic violence, writing in his 2006 book “Chad: I Can’t Be Stopped” that he pleaded no contest to a 2000 charge by his then-girlfriend.
Evelyn’s Official Statement:
“It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday. I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles. Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I’m grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time.” Via Entertainment Tonight
